Activities
Regular monthly meetings feature speakers on diverse topics such as: Minerals of the Homestake Mine, The Mineralogy of Mars, Starting and Organizing your Collection, Fluorescent Minerals and The History of Pennsylvania Mining.
Trips to view National collections such as the Smithsonian Institution and the American Museum of Natural History as well as local collections such as the Wagner Institute and Bryn Mawr College.
Field Collecting trips in the local area including Philadelphia, Delaware, Chester, Montgomery, Berks, Bucks and Lancaster Counties. Also, field trips to out of state localities such Herkimer County, NY and fossil collecting at Calvert Cliffs in Maryland.
Philadelphia Mineralogical Society also sponsors the Philadelphia areas largest Mineral and Fossil show in conjunction with The Delaware Valley Paleontological Association This is a two-day mineral exhibit and show, usually in the month of April at the Lulu Temple in Plymouth Meeting, PA. The show is open to the public and includes displays created by members and other mineralogists. Commercial dealers purveying rocks, gems, minerals, fossils and jewelry are invited to participate.
